Mogadishu, (InsideSomalia.org) One person dead and three others wounded on Thursday after unknown gunmen attacked a meeting of the Yemen community in Mogadishu, say witness.
A hand grenade was hurled to the meeting hall by gunmen who had immediately disappeared from scene, said Mohamed Abdi, a resident of a nearby building at Behani neighborhood in Shibis district where almost Yemni Community was concentrated for many decades.
"The person killed was a school master and the four wounded were participators of the meeting which was discussed matters on the community's involvement on the peace and reconciliation in Somalia" said Abu Bakar Abdalla, member of the Yemeni Community in Somalia.
Other reports said that the Yemeni Community was electing a local leader in southern Mogadishu.
Yemenis are considered in Somali power sharing as an ally of the Alliance of the fifth clan known as "others" or the point five groups which comprises of "lower caste groups" including Banadiri, Jarerweyne, Tumal and Midgaaan.
Yemen in January 2007 became the first country to open an embassy in the Somali capital.
The Somali capital Mogadishu has witnessed day to day attacks since last year after Union of Islamic Courts was ousted by allied Somali government and Ethiopian troops.
Insurgents believed to be supporters of UIC regrouped themselves wagging attacks against government and Ethiopian forces.
Somali government is struggling contain peace and security in the capital and Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein vowed that his government plan have dialogue with opposition including insurgents fighting government and Ethiopian troops in the streets of Mogadishu.
